Thank You Vets! Happy Veteran's Day - 11/11/2008

What a great Weekend!!

Ok where do I start? What an amazing weekend.
1st: Saturday Morning we get up and take the bike and I run in the WW meeting to weigh in. I lost 3.2 lbs this week!! Have no idea how, but I will take it. So thats a total of 17.7 lbs lost.

2nd: From there we head off to the Kennedy Space Center for the Air Show. My first Air show with the Blue Angels as head liners! AMAZING! I highly recommend that if you have never seen an airshow and there is one near by GO SEE IT!

3rd: This morning we got up and went to the Space Coast Harely Davidson store for the Bikers Ride for Babies - Motorcycle ride for the March of Dimes. It was a 50 mile ride around our county with a police escort so no stopping for any lights or stop signs. How cool is it for 300 - 500 motorcycles to come roaring by all traffic is stopped. We had people getting out of their cars and taking pictures, people coming out of their houses and waiving. It was like we in a parade, and what a good cause to show bikers in a good light.

Here are just a couple pictures from this weekend.

Passing Plateaus
Expert help for when your body stalls
Biggest Loser Club fitness expert Maria Patella knows how frustrating it is to hit a plateau in your weight loss. While no one is certain why the body chooses to "shut down" at certain points in your weight-loss plan, Maria says experts do have a theory: "We see again and again that over-exercise and under-eating, in an effort to lose more weight quickly, can shut down weight loss," Maria says. "And that is why consistency is more important than doing a lot for a short time."

Maria says for this reason, the worst mistake dieters make is allowing the numbers on the scale to discourage them: "Many times folks quit when their body is just taking a rest," Maria says. "It may be 'wondering' whether or not the lower calories and increased exercise are going to continue. And when they don't, the body happily gains again."

Maria says the best thing to do is to continue to eat right and exercise even when the weight loss has slowed down. "You send a signal to the body that it needs to adapt because the healthy habits are here to stay," Maria says.

Maria says sometime it takes weeks for the body to kick back in and surpass the "magical" metabolic threshold, but a new level of fitness lies beyond that as long as you don't give up.

Maria's advice? "Hang in there, what matters most is what you do over time."

No more Pasta for dinner

So I lost 0.2lbs this week. But at least it was a loss. I did really well all week, but Thursday and Friday I had pasta. I added veggies to the pasta and protein. I was within my points and I worked out - but apparently past for dinner just adds pounds on me. Thats what this journey is about though, learning the lessons that will change my life not just help me on a "diet".

Feel like I am cheating

I know I'm not, but WW encourages you to eat all your points. Well I gained last week and really did not have a reason for it so this week I am eating less than my points. I am actually staying about 10-8 points less than what I am suppose to have. And I am seeing some results. I know they say not to weigh everyday, but because I can gain 5lbs in one day based off the wrong food I have to weigh everyday so that I can learn what foods are the "bad" foods. Of course we will have to see what Saturday brings.

I hope everyone has made it to hump day in good health and high spirts.

Biggest Loser - inspiration

Over the past months I have learned how PCOS really makes me different. I cannot just work out 30 minutes a day 3-4 days a week. Nope I have to work out 6 days a week and only one or two of those days can be for 30 minutes. The rest better be an hour or more or I am not going to lose. Let me tell you that is a hard concept to grab, but I think I have got it - I hope. :-) So every Tuesday I do two things. I get in my resitance training with the biggest loser power sculpt - I hate resitance training! :-) That is about 25-30 minutes. Then I flip on my tv to biggest loser families and jump on my eliptical and work my way through 3-4 programs. See on Tuesdays Biggest Loser Families is on tv for 2 hours. It gets my week off to the right start - but at the same time it is not Monday's which is just a tough day for me.
I also am in a weight loss challenge with 3 of my friends from work. We weigh in each Friday with the challenge ending Dec. 31. That gives me the support at work to keep on track. 3 friends that are there to run to instead of running to the vending machine - .. and they are always good for a hearty laugh.
Well life is going good - this past Saturday I lost 2.3 pounds, for an official 15.3 total loss!!!
Thank you for all your support - it really is a big help, especially on the days where I think this PCOS stuff really sucks. :-)
