Mama's self care

*affiliate links included

We are Moms, sisters, daughters, bosses, employees, partners....pick your titles and add more.  It is easy to get lost in each and everyone of them, so I challenge you today to pick a title that let's you give you some love and self care.

I have been an athlete my whole life and the older I get the more I enjoy running/walking and golf.  So each year I sign up for my local running stores 7 run series.  I pay for them all up front, because now that I paid I "have to" participate.   It helps me keep all the other excuses from stopping me.

Tuesday, the 4th of July, is the kick off Firecracker 5k. A girlfriend of mine is also going to be there sans family so we are going to attempt to run together... our paces are usually very different, but I am looking forward to seeing my friend and catching up.

Rule number 1 of race day - wear nothing new...so I had to test run my skirt today, I already did the socks last week ( wasn't about to create more laundry for myself that had to be done before 6am on Tueaday!)

So here is the skirt trial,  it worked great, but man was it hot. I've included links to the interval timer I use and the shoes I wear, but please go be fitted for shoes.

Feeling awesome

Had one day down and them was right back at it this morming.  5am 5ks are still going strong.  Plan is to hit the bridge tomorrow morning for bridge trainkng. We are one month out from the Monticello watermelon fest I 5K.  Its the hottest, hillest run I do all year.  I plan on PRing this year, which means I've got to get the hills in.  Only day for this right now is Saturday because we are still carpooling.

Yup one vehical is still down.  We got the next part to try last night and we will see what happens.  Please pray that this is the part.

The bathroom is dry and has had two coats of protection and mildew killer put on.  Next will be primer and paint for water areas.  Fun fun fun.  Thankfully my husband is a very handy man and has been an!e to do all these fixes himself!

Update on Jocelyne - she is working hard at pt and the doctors are working hard and finding out why she is losing weight.  Please keep her and her family in your prayers.

Happy Friday, may it be filled with many blessings.

Happy PI day!

Happy PI day! Yes I am showing my GEEK today - it is 3.14 as in the mathematical constant PI. hehehe

However I am watching my sugar in take so instead of pie today I have two sweet things to share:

Last night ran the corporate 5k and PR'ed!!! (Personal Record).  Last year I ran this race in 49:29, this year 47:36!!! Almost 2 minutes!!!   My lungs burned at the end, still scared from the asma attack at the Disney run, however the only way to fix lungs and train them to be better is to push that limit.  Though I hate throwing up, when it comes to running and asma pushing to that limit is actually beneficial in increasing your speed and lowering your times.

The second thing is - even though I gained on the scale this week, it was measurement time and the results are good. I hadn't actually measured since September. All measurements down, except 1, my chest is 1/2" bigger.  I've been doing a lot of pushups and tricep dips - so that can be attributed to the peck muscles gaining.

  9/1/13 3/14/14 Change
Upper arms 16 15.5 -0.5
chest 46 46.5 0.5
waist 48 47.5 -0.5
hips 54 52.5 -1.5
thighs 25 24 -1

Sweet, sweet treats for this PI day!

Happy Friday, may it be filled with many blessings.

I finally get to share!

If you look back to 2-14-2014, yes Valentine's day, you will see the title was Happy Day.  Well that had a very special meaning - that is the day I got married!!! My husband and I eloped, to a near by beach, with his daughter, her boyfriend and three other very close friends.

Why did we wait so long to tell everyone?  Well we wanted to tell our parents in person.  My parents and sister came down for their annual Disney trip.  We handed them envelopes with cards in them - that are often sent at Christmas time (ok well I didn't get my Christmas cards out this year so they were in there too!), but these ones said Just Married and had a collage of pictures.  My mom and my sisters reactions were priceless! We missed my mom on camera, but managed to film my sister.

Over the past year we had been telling both our families that we were just going to elope.  Neither of us wanted a big to-do with lots and lots of people.  This was about us, God, and our marriage - not our wedding day.  For us this is what felt right.  We had both done the big day thing before.

For those reading everyday, yes I did then get up the next morning and run a 3k with my step daughter at the zoo, where I set a PR by almost 5 minutes. :)

From the day we started dating my husband has supported my weight loss efforts and my running goals.  I know some are not as lucky to have that support and I do not take if for granted.  He loves to cook and he is always looking up new recipes that add lots of flavor with out the calories.  I went low carb and he went low carb with me.  I'm counting points and he is learning what that means.  He celebrates my victories and he helps evaluate when things don't go the right way.  He doesn't sugar coat it, but is supportive in the way I need.

So Happy Monday! May your day be filled with blessings.  Here is a picture of our day.

Happy Day!

It's Valentine's Day - that day where in case you've forgotten to tell your loved ones how much you love them the rest of the days of the year, every where you look you are reminded to tell them today.

I hope that you remember more than once a year to tell those you love that you love them.  Yes they may know that you do, but everyone likes to be told.  To hear those words - that they are loved.

May this be a day that those that need to hear it will.  To know that they are loved, they are thought of - more than on just a day when society reminds us, that they are prayed for.  May this be a day of healing for those that are suffering.

*****

It is a busy day for me today.  I snuck in some tricep dips.  I will work in a few other body weight exercise today, but it will be a rest day from cardio.  Zoo race tomorrow 1.8 miles, I will post some pictures.

Tomorrow, February 15th, is International Angelman Day.  A girl I went to college with has a little girl - Gwennie - who has this and tomorrow's run will be run for her, along with my I Run 4 buddy Makwa.

11 more days

Just 11 more little days until my second 1/2 marathon!!!!!

I've decided this time around, since its only been two months since I ran the last one, that I will focus on the hill work. As you can see from the previous post I'm running 2-4 miles over a cause way (read tall, long bridge over water).

Most of my training runs are flat - the biggest "hill" is my driveway.  Well in 11 days part of the course is running over the free overpass.  Distance wise I know I can do the 13.1, just did that.  And over the course of the week last week I ran:
Monday = 4 miles bridge
Wednes. = 2 miles bridge
Friday   = 4 miles bridge
Saturday = 3.1 miles neighborhood

For a grand total of: 13.1 miles for the week.

I've also decided that my hair is getting too long and heavy again - so after I run the race I will be chopping my hair and donating it, again.  Since I'm at Disney I've decided I will make an appointment with the barber's on main street and have it done there :) Pictures to follow.

Happy Tuesday!
